MONDAY - August 3rd
Monday took us out of town and up to Dumont Lake where we were told the wildflowers were still in bloom. It was a wonderful day weather-wise and we spent a few hours madly snapping pictures (all 6 of us!) at almost every plant we saw! We walked the path partway around the lake where we were told there were patches of wildflowers that looked like they were out of a Monet painting. We aren't sure that we actually found the specific field but what we saw was spectacular!
We came back into town for a late lunch which was on the sidewalk at Winona's - wonderful food (so good we went back the next day, too!). We finished the day with a return trip to some of the stores we had gone to on Sunday.
Downtown Steamboat has a couple of interesting statues - one of Ben Franklin and one of Samuel Clemens, aka Mark Twain, who happens to also be our cousin. We just couldn't resist taking a picture with him, and with the magic of Photoshop, we got a picture of all of us!

TUESDAY - August 4th
Tuesday found us at the Tread of the Pioneer museum - the local museum dedicated to historic Steamboat. It was in an old turn of the century Queen Anne house with interesting displays and information. The kitchen was disturbing to several of us - the pattern on the floor seemed to conflict with the wallpaper, and we think that the floor might not have been totally level and consequently it made some of us nausiated.
Tuesday evening took us to Strawberry Fields Hot Springs - fun time and beautiful drive though aspen forests...
WEDNESDAY - August 5th
Matthew took us on a sight-seeing trip north of Steamboat and to the lake where we spent some time on a float boat. Beautiful day!
This was our last day together and we ended it at a great restaurant suggested by Matthew - he joined us there and also for a final farewell drink back at the condo...
THURSDAY - August 6th
Mary Beth and Peggy left this morning so the remaining 4 of us went to the local botanical gardens - it is well tended, well labeled with lots of secret garden areas and decorative ornaments, complete with resident cat!
Lunch was in downtown Steamboat along the river...
while dinner was a great concoction created by Deborah from leftovers!
Breakfast the next morning (Friday, August 7th) and Deborah riding the dinosaur while we filled up the car for the trip back to Denver to catch our planes home...
