Peggy and Mary Beth returned to their rigs and rejoined their guys on Friday morning which left Deborah and Barb on their own. We went back to Newport (again after a lazy morning) to go to the Central Coast Quilt Show. It was a nice-sized show, which took us several hours to go through. We watched some of the demonstrations and of course Barb found a few quilting tools she couldn't resist. Lunch was there at the quilt show so nothing fancy, but it took care of the need for food.
We headed back to the condo for packing and eating up more of the leftovers (still had some steak and sweet potato). The sun came out for our last evening on the deck and we were able to enjoy a glorious sunset. Got the car mostly packed that night so we could head out early in the morning to get Deborah to PDX for her flight to Oakland (via Phoenix!)

Thursday to the Aquarium
Bev and Bea got packed up and left us about 10 am for the long drive back to Sacramento. We kept in touch throughout the day with texting. The remaining 4 went to Newport to the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Weather continued to be coolish with a bit of breeze. There were lots of people there, but apparently not as many as there were on Tuesday!
Seahorses were the first critters we saw and we had a great time watching and photographing them. This part of the aquarium is really geared for kids with lots of hand's on activities. We saw an interesting display with sea plumes and sand dollars, with a time-lapse showing how sand dollars move! (should have taken a video of the video!) There was a great touching tank for kids (and adults!), too. Outside were sea otters, seals, sea lions and an octopus. The large fish display is well done with a walk through people tube and 3 or 4 sections, each depicting a different part of the ocean.
We tried to go to Local Ocean, but even at 2 pm the place was packed, as was everything else along the bay. We headed back up into Newport proper where we found a funky little local restaurant. It was crowded which we took as a good sign. It only had about 9 tables and a few counter seats. Very extensive menu with breakfast served all day. We each had something different and it was all pretty good! Unfortunately I found Peggy's leftovers in the Rav on Friday morning.
We had purchased steaks again on Wednesday to have on Thursday but since Bea and Bev left we had Larry and Manuel over for dinner that night to help eat them. Barb and Peggy managed to cook the steaks and Deborah again made an out-of-this-world dessert with some of the cherries purchased earlier in the week and the chocolate decadance from Harry and David's. I think Larry's expression says it all!

Wednesday - Ready, set, SHOP!
Because of sales at the Chico's outlet we headed for Lincoln City and the outlet mall. Bev dropped off her necklace that needed to be fixed while the rest of us scattered through out the mall. We were all successful with the morning shopping, and we all bragged about how much we saved.
Off to Mo's for lunch! It was a little after 12 when we got there and we finally found a parking place for the car and we were seated in the far corner. We all ordered some sort of seafood which was all pretty good!
After lunch Mary Beth, Peggy, and Deborah were dropped off at the mall again while the rest of us went a bit south to Mossy Creek Pottery and Alder House glass. Bea was blown away with the pottery and after lots of wandering we all purchased some bowls and Barb purchased a small book-like box wall decoration. We headed back to pick up Bev's necklace that was fixed and headed back to the mall to rendezvous with the others at Claire's!
Why Claire's? Bev and Peggy had each decided to get a second set of piercings on their ears! Clair's was a very busy place for ear piercing so we had plenty of time for them to pick out their piercing earrings. Naturally the event was well documented.
On the return trip Bill let Bev know that he was again experiencing some a-fib symptoms and was again taking himself to the hospital. We had already decided to eat in, munching on leftovers from previous meals and to supplement it with whole-hog grilled cheese sandwiches (bacon, tomatoes, caramelized onions). Leftovers included the desserts from previous night, too!
During the night Bev kept in contact with Bill as best as she could but made the decision that she and Bea would leave on Thursday and return to Sacramento.

If it's Tuesday it must be Depoe Bay (or whales, and sea gulls and pelicans, oh my!)
Lazy morning at the condo, with talking and watching for whales. There was one that put on a bit of a show - no breeches, but lots of blows.
Having spent the last several days in cars we decided to stay close to home to explore the shops around Depoe Bay. Found a couple of great shops that feature items made by local artists - so most of us bought something, mostly jewelry. Bev also found some new shoes and Barb bought a new Baggallini bag.
Lunch was at Gracie's Sea Hag. Most of us had clam chowder followed by 2 Marionberry Tarts...we shared those and they were gone in minutes.
We headed back north to an antique mall that supposedly had 10 stores but only 3 open and only 1 was any good...as usual Bea found some jewelry. There was one that had lots of old pharmacy stuff. Larry and Manuel had been there earlier and found out that the pharmaceuticals had come out of an old drugstore in Weaverville, CA.
We continued north to Goodwill with a few more purchases - MB found a basket to use for a Sweet Adeline's silent auction and Barb found some cheap wine glasses and a couple of pots to use for kitchen countertop tool storage.
Back to the condo for before dinner drinks and some snacks. We had reservations at Tidal Raves for 8:15! We again looked for whales but saw none though we did see brown pelicans!
Tidal Raves was delicious! The restaurant is fairly small so reservations were required. It is built so most of the tables had ocean views. Five of the 6 of us had crab in some version, which we all declared wonderful! Desserts to go: key lime pie, tiramisu, and bread pudding. Some of the bread pudding was dropped off at the RVs for Manuel and Larry.
During the course of the evening we found out that Bill had some a-fib episodes while at dialysis, so they stopped that and called medical personnel. They wanted to transport him but he instead drove himself there. He was released about 1 AM with things under control
Wednesday's plans were originally to go to Newport to the aquarium, but there are sales at the Chico's outlet so it sounds like shopping again with Newport on Thursday!

Monday!
Monday morning started with a great breakfast scramble with bacon and sour dough toast prepared by Bev, Mary Beth and Peggy. Deborah had cut some cantaloupe the previous day which we also munched.
We had decided to head north to Tillamook and Garibaldi/Rockaway Beach and finally decided to go to Rockaway Beach first, do lunch, shop, then take the steam train ride to Garibaldi (and return to RB), then back to Tillamook and ice cream!
We definitely saw a difference in traffic through Lincoln City as it was no longer the weekend; however, being a weekday/workday, we ran into road construction! Can't win! Oh, well...Nice drive up 101 with dairy farms and 'marshmallow' fields! Once we reached Tillamook we were glad that we decided to do that later as the parking lot was full.
The steam train was just arriving after we parked so we bought our tickets for later in the day and had lunch at a funky little fish place, Old Oregon Smokehouse. Food was great - the crabcakes were the size of saucers!
We wandered the shops but only earrings, bracelets, lotion bars, refrigerator magnets and a sign were added to our purchases.
The train ride was fun...we sat in the semi-open air car so had a great view. The train runs backwards going south (locomotive pushed instead of pulled) so we were also behind the enclosed car which helped protect us from the wind. The ride was pretty rickety - can't imagine riding something like this for miles and miles and miles! It runs along the coast (obviously!). Garibaldi is pretty small; they really need to have an espresso stand nearby (and easy bathroom access!). After a 20 minute stop we got back on for the return trip.
Train trip and shopping accomplished we headed back to Tillamook where the crowds had thinned out so we were glad we made the plans the way we did. Cheese tasting, peering down at the workers in the factory and eating ice cream were all accomplished! Barb ran into a family from Selah (seems she always runs into someone from Selah on the Oregon Coast). Several cheeses were purchased by some of us; also salt water taffy (can't go to the coast without getting taffy!)
As we were leaving Tillamook, Barb discovered some barn quilts so of course she had to take pictures. Only found a few but it would have taken all day to see all of them as it was later discovered there are about 80 in the area.
After a quick stop at Mary Beth's and Peggy's RVs to drop off and pick up stuff we headed for the barn. Mary Beth and Peggy had given us fun margarita glasses and frozen wine margarita mixes so we tucked into them (after fortifying them with a bit of tequila!). Peggy donated her block of sharp white cheddar for grilled cheese sandwiches which were enhanced with bacon leftover from breakfast and tomatoes that MB had picked up from the RV. The margaritas were loads of fun, adding more to our hilarious adventures!

Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Friday
Peggy and Mary Beth traveled up from CA with their hubbys and stayed in Lincoln City on Friday night.
Barb was picking up Deborah in Portland and getting together was a bit of a challenge. Barb had to go the long way around via White Pass because of a fire on Satus Pass. It was looking like we were going to meet at the airport about the same time (Deborah had flown in a couple of days earlier to visit a friend and was driving back), but after stopping to get gas got stuck in bumper to bumper traffic because of an accident. We finally got on the road to Medford a couple of hours later than planned. We watched wildfires grow in southern Oregon which we found out later were caused by some of the 2900 lightening strikes the previous night.
Bea, Bev, Deborah and Barb then met in Jacksonville to have dinner with the three B's cousin Allen. Delicious bbqed wild boar and buffalo along with a good visit. We stayed in Medford...
Saturday we caravanned toward the beach with a wonderful stop for lunch in Elkton.
Later we passed by Loon Lake, the location of the Lehfeldt reunion in 2010. Stopped at a elk viewing site and later on the coast.
We arrived about 5:30 in Depoe Bay with Peggy and Mary Beth showing up at exactly the same time from Lincoln City!
After having dinner in the condo (steak, salad and delicious bread followed by a wonderful concoction Deborah made with fresh strawberries) we shared gifts of beeswax candles, homemade jam, photo album of our first trip, bags of books with strawhats and piles of zippers that were puzzles to figure out that they zipped into bags.
Sunday
Lazy morning, taking us a while to get the whole group going...grabbed breakfast as we wanted - mostly cereal with blueberries, strawberries, cantalope.
Decided to head north to Lincoln City to the weekly farmer and craft market. Everything is either handmade or homegrown. Lots of great produce, (Peggy purchased blackberries that Deborah will making into some wonderful dessert, bakery items (Mary Beth bought some great jalapeno rolls that we use for hamburgers for dinner), and handcrafted items. Bev bought a table topper that we used tonight (and no major spills on it), Bea bought a necklace, Deborah bought a bell made out of an old tank of some sort (some made out of old scuba tanks, some out of fire extinguishers, and other 'tank' things), and I, Barb, bought a twining loom.
After exhausting the market we headed to Pacific City for lunch at Pelican Pub and Brewery. Bea, Mary Beth and Peggy shared a 7 beer sampler while Bev and Barb sent their chardonnay back to be warmed up!
After the delicious lunch we headed back south and did a bit of antiquing in Lincoln City, but left everything there. Bev did get a new pair of dansko's though. Back to the condo after another grocery shopping expedition by committee and great dinner of hamburgers on those delicious buns. We are still awaiting Deborah's dessert creation.
Deborah's creation was finally revealed - she made cookies out of a pie dough mix, and topped ice cream with blackberries that had been enhanced with sugar and the remnants of last night's wine and some melted chocolate.

We have arrived!
We have all arrived here in Depoe Bay and have just had our first supper...or rather festive dinner....filet mignon (bacon wrapped...bbqed perfectly by Bea and her crew...delicious bread and wonderful salad with homegrown cucumbers from MB and a few purchased extra salad ingredients. Dessert was a perfect end created by Deborah: fresh strawberries, sliced and warmed. Sauce was a few macerated strawberries, a few glugs of wine (Old Vine Zin this time) and equal amount of sugar, cooked gently in a saucepan until thickened a bit...cool a bit and then poured over strawberries and ice cream....DELICIOUS!!! Sorry - no pix tonight...we were drinking way too much! LOL!!!

Depoe Bay, here we come!
In two weeks we will be starting our next adventure in Depoe Bay, OR! Stay tuned as Gramma's Girls terrorize the Oregon Coast!
